Have you been thinking and feeling that your child might benefit from counselling?

We offer talking and creative therapies to support children

If your child is asking for someone to talk to outside of the family, or you are going through difficult times emotionally, counselling may help your child. You may need some time for yourself too.

If you ring our secretary Mary, she will talk with you and arrange for one of our counsellors to contact you to discuss the best option for your child. As part of that discussion you can decide whether counselling would be useful for you too.

We are a small project and try and meet the counselling needs of each of our families.

We are able to follow a child from primary to secondary school.

We work towards endings however families and schools can re-refer.

Professional

We use minimal paperwork. Schools and parents will get an update every 6 weeks. Every child will be part of this process.

We offer a meeting with parents at the beginning of the work and after every 6 weeks if this feels useful. In addition we offer a final meeting which children are made aware of.

In our final session with a child they provide small achievable wishes that they feel will help them with Home & Family, Friends and School.

Our counsellors provide sessions in schools and in our room.

We see clients on the same day, same time every week to provide a safe, regular, familiar base to build a relationship together.

We work in a holistic way, and like to build relationships with key staff if we are in schools, and with parents too. This supports positive  outcomes for our children.

We won’t be sharing anything a client says or does in their session unless it falls under safeguarding criteria. This gives a child the space to express themselves with words, or sometimes through art or play.

The Church Street Project aims for children to be listened to, and feel they have a voice or a space to express themselves. At times children can use strategies to get attention that don’t benefit them (we all do at times). They can have fears and worries that they don’t understand so can’t express.

We have found by using talking, thinking and feelings with Creative Therapies that children can gain a little insight into who they are and who they would like to be.
